Fernie Brewing Company Announces Location for New Brewery
July 5th, 2006 – New Location for Fernie Brewing Company in Ghostrider Subdivision
(Fernie, BC) – Fernie Brewing Company – the East Kootenays only Microbrewery is pleased to announce the location for their new Brewhouse. The new facility will be located in the Ghostrider Subdivision in Fernie on Manitou Road, adjacent to the new site of Elk River Mountain Homes. “We are very excited about our new location. Now everyone driving through the town of Fernie, will see the name Fernie Brewing Company”, says Lenka Kosmak, Marketing Manager for Fernie Brewing Company. “It will provide incredible exposure for our products and help strengthen our brand awareness in the community.”
Plans for the new brewery include a 5000 square foot Brewhouse, and a 1200 square foot Tasting Room. Initially Fernie Brewing Company was interested in a lot on Second Avenue, across from the old Highschool. However due to time constraints, Fernie Brewing Company had to start looking at other options, and that’s when the opportunity at the Ghostrider Subdivision came to fruition.
The reason for the move is twofold. “Firstly, we need more space, we have outgrown our existing facility,” states FBC President Russell Pask. “We’ve ordered more tanks to fill the new Brewhouse, so that we can keep up with demand for our product in the BC and Alberta markets”. Secondly, Fernie Brewing Company recognizes the need to showcase their facility. “We make all of our beer by hand, locally in small batches” says Don Moore Headbrewer. “Beer doesn’t just come from cans – we use only pure ingredients in making our brews – premium barley malt, hops, Rocky Mountain water and yeast. We adhere to strict quality standards to ensure all of our brewery’s beers are 100% natural”. Construction of the new facility will begin immediately, with expectations to be in the new facility by late Fall 2006. “We are simply running out of space”, states Kosmak, “what it comes down to is – we simply need more room to brew, which is great!”
Guided tours and tastings will be offered starting this fall, taking people through the step-by-step process of handcrafting FBC’s Premium Brews. Guests will be guided through the entire brewing experience starting at the Mill Room, seeing the Brew Kettle and Fermentation Tanks, right through to the Kegging and Canning Systems. Finally, guests will be able to sample the ales & lagers that are crafted at Fernie Brewing Company.
“It will add to the Fernie experience, which has always been renowned for its outdoor activities. Now there will be something more to talk about,” say Murray Pask, Fernie Brewing Company. “There’s great beer!” Fernie Brewing Company has already had a number of inquiries from local accommodators, wanting to add a brewery tour to their accommodation packages. “It will give guests, another part of the Fernie experience, and give them a chance to rest their legs for a day,” adds Pask. Tours will also be available to local residents wanting to see how things work at their local brewery.
Fernie Brewing Company is attending the Canada Cup of Beer, on July 8th, in Vancouver. “We have decided to attend a number of Beer Festivals this summer throughout BC, to help increase awareness of the Fernie name in the rest of the province”, says Kosmak, who will be attending the Festival. “We offer a unique product in the Microbrewery industry, being the first to introduce microbrew cans to the BC market. And so far our strong sales reflect the need for cans in the Microbrew Industry.”
